Socio-economic analyses
When relevant, we complement the evidence syntheses with a socio-economic analysis.
There are different types of socio-economic analyses, with different purposes:
- A conceptual analysis aims to shed light on an issue from a holistic perspective. For example, a conceptual analysis can identify incentives behind decisions and behaviours that cause environmental impacts, or market failures that justify government intervention.
- A cost-benefit analysis aims to determine the socio-economic costs and benefits of various objectives, measures or policy This makes it possible to assess the socio-economic profitability, i.e. whether the benefits exceed the costs.
- A cost-effectiveness analysis aims to find out the costs of different environmental measures and determine which measure that can lead to the achievement of a specific environmental objective at the lowest socio-economic cost.
- A policy instrument analysis aims to identify which policy instrument is most appropriate to stimulate the implementation of the cost-effective measures.
