Ten Research Projects on Art in Designed Living Environments – Final Conference

On the 15th of november we brought together the ten funded projects from the call Designed living environment – architecture, form, design, art and cultural heritage in public spaces, discussing with experts in the field, and the authorities behind the call for forward-looking thoughts.

Formas, the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning, ArkDes, the Swedish National Heritage Board, and the Public Arts Agency Sweden are the joint initiators of this initiative, which takes place within the framework of the National Research Program for Sustainable Spatial Planning for which Formas is responsible.

The projects highlight artistic perspectives and the role of public art in the design of sustainable living environments. The project teams consist of academic and artistic researchers, artists, heritage experts, architects, designers, and other professionals.

  • Maddie Leach, HDK- Valand - Academy of Art, University of Gothenburg: The Fountain: An Art-Technological Social Drama
  • Maja Gunn, HDK- Valand - Academy of Art, University of Gothenburg: A co-created artistic creation's contribution to social commitment and sustainable living environment
  • Meike Schalk, Architecture, KTH: A full loop of performance: from the perspectives of young people, via formal, and informal environmental learning, to the reviewing of policies in multi-actor constellations, and back again
  • Björn Ekelund, PhD, architect SAR/MSA, Warm in the Winter: Healing Heritage - To curate polluted landscapes and rural public spaces
  • Åsa Ståhl, Department of Design, Linnaeus University: Holding Surplus House, exploring built environment through giving form to a household that takes what is at hand – and striving to share a surplus
