Tandem Forest Values: Sweden’s gift to Finland’s 100th anniversary

Given decision: 2018-06-29 00:00

With the purpose to strengthen and develop long-term bilateral research collaboration between Finland and Sweden in the field of forestry and forest industry, the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry (KSLA), together with Formas and three Swedish foundations, has opened a call for research proposals for a number of two-year postdoc positions of 1 million SEK each per year. The call is Sweden’s official gift to Finland’s centenary of independence.

The call contains two topics:

A) Sustainable forest management. Knowledge is needed, from basic and applied research, which can contribute to new methods of forest management that meet both existing and new needs and targets of forest owners and society. In order to understand the role of the forest in the efforts to tackle climate change, new system knowledge is needed to find out how the managed boreal forest landscape can contribute further, and what the effects are of different measures in the forest and in society.

B) New products and processes. The Swedish and Finnish forests have a huge potential to contribute to a bio-based economy, in which bio-based materials, products and processes are central to attaining the set climate targets. Therefore, knowledge, which can support development and breakthroughs of both existing and new sustainable products and production processes, is necessary. In addition, system analyses into how forest raw materials ought to be used to create the greatest benefit for society are needed.

The complete call text with instructions regarding submission, evaluation criteria and other relevant information is available on KSLA's webpage.
