Decisions

Decision list: Proof-of-concept, 2018-11-14 External link.

Please note that the official given decision will at the latest be announced in Prisma on November 23, 2018.

Part 1: Research projects

Formas invites researchers from all disciplines to design research projects that focus on food in a circular and bio-based economy. The projects should examine issues related to:

  • Food products and/or processing, or
  • the Consumer and/or the food market.

Formas encourages projects based on multi- or interdisciplinary collaboration in particular. Partnership with business or other stakeholders is strongly recommended and will be taken into account in the assessment of the application. The potential societal value of the project and its expected impact on identified needs of stakeholders within the food sector or the broader society will be considered in the evaluation.

Who can apply: The main applicant should be a researcher who holds a Ph.D. and is currently employed at a Swedish university, university college, research institute or a governmental agency that engages in research. Formas strongly encourages other stakeholders to participate in the projects.

Each project can apply for: Up to 2.5 million SEK/year.

Length of project: Up to 3 years.

Formas allocates: Up to 75 million SEK.

Part 2: Proof-of-Concept

Formas invites applications for Proof-of-Concept (PoC) projects to initiate the utilization / commercialization of research results from research projects previously funded by Formas or The Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet) between 2010 and 2017. The aim of the PoC call is to bridge the gap between basic research and utilization / commercialization. The funding in the PoC project may be used to verify the usability and appropriateness of a new method, product or process developed from a previous research project and to establish a strategy for utilization / commercialization.

Who can apply: The main applicant should be a researcher who holds a Ph.D. and is currently employed at a Swedish university, university college, research institute or a governmental agency that engages in research. Formas recommends that projects communicate with commercialization experts and users of the results to confirm the need for utilization / commercialization.

Each project can apply for: 200.000 to 1.5 million SEK/year.

Length of project: Up to 1 year.

Formas allocates: Up to 7.5 million SEK.
