The dates for the call for proposals are tentative and subject to change. The details will be further developed and refined until the call opens.
The European Partnership for Forests, Forestry and the Forest-based Sector within Horizon Europe – FOREST – will open its first call for transnational three-year projects during autumn 2026. Formas, the Swedish Energy Agency, and Vinnova are announcing funding so that actors operating in Sweden can participate in transnational projects focusing on timber and innovative wood-based products, or on forest value chains, markets and governance for the forest sector as a whole.
The European FOREST Partnership (FOrests, forestry and the forest-based Sector: REsearch and Innovation for a Sustainable Transition) promotes research and innovation to accelerate the transformation of the European forest-based sector into a resilient and knowledge-intensive contributor to a sustainable, circular bioeconomy and to society.
The first call within the FOREST partnership has a broad thematic scope and will fund projects that make significant contributions to one of the following four preliminary topics:
- Topic 1 – Climate-Resilient Forest Systems
- Topic 2 – Adaptive and Multifunctional Forest Management Systems
- Topic 3 – Timber and Innovative Wood-Based Products
- Topic 4 – Forest Value Chains, Markets and Governance
Please note that the Swedish funding bodies will only fund projects within Topic 3 and Topic 4 in this call.
A two-step application procedure will apply. A pre-proposal has to be submitted for the first step, and the selected pre-proposals will be invited to submit a full proposal in step 2. The project duration is three years, and funded projects are due to commence in the first half of 2028.

17 September 2026, 10:00. Information webinar by the FOREST partnership for interested applicants. Participants will receive an overview of the call and a brief introduction to the submission and evaluation system.
29 September 2026, 11:00-12:00. National information webinar for applicants. Organised by Formas, Vinnova and the Swedish Energy Agency.
30 September 2026. In-person partnering workshop in Brussels: The EUFORE Final Conference 2026 (29–30 September 2026, Brussels) will feature a dedicated matchmaking session to connect potential partners, foster collaboration, and support consortium building for future projects
6 October 2026, 10:00. Networking webinar. The FOREST partnership will host a networking webinar to facilitate partner matchmaking and support the formation and development of consortia.
